Chrome goes VR

Google has announced plans to give its Chrome web browser the virtual reality experience.

WebVR

Back at Google’s big I/O convention in 2017, Google announced its plans for VR experimentation and is putting its plan into action by bringing the major update to Daydream devices.

While Facebook’s Oculus continues to drive news with its mobile specific platform hardware, Daydream has rolled out its own positionally-tracked headset with Lenovo but still needs content.

Adding web capability to Daydream could be the answer as WebVR offers a more stimulating way to discover content online.

The bells and whistles

The new browser experience is expected to bring a “cinema mode” specific for non-VR content, along with internet standards like incognito mode, bookmarking, and voice search.

The new browser is available for Lenovo’s Mirage Solo and Google’s Daydream View headset, both only require an update to Chrome and Android.

VR has yet to find its real stride as it continues to explore the virtual potential of social spaces and unique content but momentum is building and consumers may be ready to throw their wallets into the ring.

What do you think about the VR push online? Do you think the medium will take off? We want to know what you think, just let us know in our comments below.
