Facebook explores User-to-User Mentoring

Facebook could soon release a feature allowing users to network themselves as mentors on the popular social platform.

Professional life finds a way

Somewhat to LinkedIn’s chagrin, Facebook hast started preliminary coding towards a mentorship feature to be made available to users in the future.

Though not officially announced, social media manager Matt Navarra discovered an in-house test of the potential feature for Facebook’s mobile app.

For those familiar with LinkedIn’s latest announcement of peer-to-peer mentoring, currently being tested with select users, this may indicate a bit of competition in professional networking.

I can do anything you can do…

According to a post last May by CEO Mark Zuckerberg, the social media tycoon has been visiting states all across the US to research how Facebook might be used to give users a leg up in professional development.

With roughly 2 billion users compared to LinkedIn’s 500 million, Facebook seems poised to leverage its robust network and connect the most professionals while driving more traffic.

The foray into workplace specific social networking may have a few hurdles, especially as Facebook is many things to many people while LinkedIn is solely professionally orientated.

This new development could mark an exciting phase which revolutionises how professionals connect. It certainly shows that LinkedIn was onto something. But the question remains: is their room for both?
