Facebook gives users more control over the News Feed

Facebook has just announced it's giving users more control over what they see in the News Feed.

Keys to the kingdom

Facebook revealed the update in a blog post, explaining users will now have greater ability to hide and give feedback on posts.

“What you do in News Feed helps determine what you see in News Feed. You decide who you want to connect to, and what Pages and public figures you want to follow.

Starting today, there will be more ways for you to control and give feedback on your News Feed,” wrote Facebook Product Manager Greg Marra.

Hide and seek

News Feed settings will now display a list of the top people, Pages and Groups that have appeared in your News Feed over the past week.

Based on this summary, users can un-follow any friends, Pages or Groups they don't want to see in their Feed.

Users can also see who've they've un-followed in the past, and even re-follow them if they've had a change of heart.

Facebook is also giving users more opportunity to curate their News Feed, by being able to send detailed feedback about brand posts.

Tweak to win

The move makes sense for Facebook. As its user base grows and the News Feed gets more crowded, Facebook must ensure users are still engaged with their Feed, and brands still pay to play.

The update is now available on desktop and mobile versions of Facebook.
