Facebook continues its tinkering in new, potentially very profitable markets. The latest experiment: a payments feature being trailed in South-East Asia.
Paybook
Select users in Thailand can now pay for products featured on a Facebook Page, all without leaving the social network's eco-system.
At the moment all users can purchase via Facebook, but the process is often clumsy and not exactly mobile-friendly.
Moneyball
Facebook has been relatively slow to the payments space, and faces well established competition from the likes of Apple Pay, Square, and PayPal.
However it now seems the social giant is waking up. Facebook has already rolled out peer-to-peer payments in the US and UK, although this feature is only available to certain users.
With South-East Asia now Facebook's largest market, if the trial takes off expect a wider roll out to retailers.
