Facebook to showcase Publisher Logos

Facebook will be introducing publisher logos next to articles found in the Trending and Search sections, in an effort to push source recognition.

Here’s your news and here’s where it came from

According to Facebook Product Manager Andrew Anker, publishers can now upload their logo thanks to the new Brand Asset Library, enabling logos to appear next to the posted content.

As a part of the Facebook Journalism Project, the new logo feature is to encourage recognition of news sources populating the social network platform.

Finding logos in Trending and Search sections is just the beginning with plans to enable logo recognition anywhere news feeds are present on Facebook.

Logo = Legit

According to recent data gathered by the Pew Research Center, only 56% of readers can recall sources of a news link when viewed via social media.

Providing a logo next to an article not only provides a news source but provides validity of a given statement or information being presented, not a bad idea on the wild west that is the internet.

Brand identity is paramount to the Facebook model and an understandable logic for the new push.

Not only will news sources be granted more credit but the logo will also appear in all Trending surfaces, adding a bit of staying power and legitimacy to future news articles.
