Facebook turns out the heat on fake profiles

Facebook might be nudging 1.6 billion users, but that doesn't mean all of these are bona-fide accounts.

Something the social network is looking to address as it clamps down on phoney profiles.

Fakebook?

Facebook is reportedly working on a new feature that will alert you, if it detects another account is attempting to use your account name and profile photo.

Users will then be given the option to confirm whether the suspect account is legit or potentially fraudulent.

Good data

The feature has been live since November, and is currently available to 75% of Facebook users.

While Facebook doesn't have as big a bullying or impersonation problem as Twitter, it remains an ongoing issue.

Facebook is also said be be trialling another feature which allows users to report the posting of nonconsensual images.

By clamping down on cranks, Facebook is making its eco-system more attractive for users, and by extension advertisers.
