The Facebook Journalism Project: Local New Subscriptions Accelerator has been announced to help metro newspapers transition into the digital age.
$3 million pilot project
In the twilight of the print industry, publishers are adopting a new model of digital subscription essential to the sustainability of their business and Facebook is providing a guide to drive paid subscriptions.
“The Accelerator” project will work with 10 to 15 print news organisations and foster comprehensive strategies to encourage digital customer acquisitions on and off the platform.
Participating organisations will convene with experts on a monthly basis, to be trained by coaches and work on projects tailored to their own unique business needs.
Rollcall
Designed with publishers for publishers, the project will address new revenue to fund local journalism by providing tools and training relevant to ensure a quality digital platform with smooth subscriber acquisition.
More projects are expected to come down the pipe as Facebook continues to work along side big name print publishers, but for now we’ll just have to see how the old regime takes to the digital age.
