Facebook’s face-flip on Live

That didn’t take long. Shortly after announcing its video streaming service Facebook Live is only for celebrities, Facebook now says Live will soon be within reach of mere mortals.

Faceflip

Facebook responded to repeated requests about Live in an official statement.

“In the future, Mentions will be available to verified Profiles”. This will include access to Facebook Live.

Power to the people

This is a pretty quick flip for Facebook.

When Live launched earlier this month, Facebook was vague about a wider roll-out of the service.

However with video content hot property on Facebook right now, it makes sense for the network to keep users within its eco-system.

Live and let stream

This might be cause for concern for live streaming mavens Meerkat and Twitter-owned Periscope.

In the meantime, the rest of us can get tips on how the pros are rocking Live by following Dwayne “The Rock” Johnston.
