Google Flights now predicts Airline Delays

Google is unveiling a slew of new features for the Google Flights search engine, including the ability to predict flight delays faster than airlines themselves.

Taking flight with the future of air travel

In an effort to provide users with more expedient and efficient travel, Google Flights will be utilising learning algorithms to navigate unforeseen delays and cheaper fares.

The predictive feature draws from collected data and AI, learning to announce delays when a likelihood reaches 80%, a prediction that your airline may not even yet be aware.

Other new features include expected weather and arrival delays. Simply enter your flight number in Google Flights to access the new info.

What’s all involved with your ticket?

The updates follow in the wake of Google adding deals and price tracking to Flights, along with hotel search information. This brings the service into competition with travel start-ups like TripIt and Hopper.

These predictions serve as a preview of Google’s deep learning capabilities.

For now, travelers must still have to wait for official announcements from their airline for delays before taking action. So while the update may not save you time, it will keep you informed.

Are you impressed by Google Flight’s predictions? Can you see the value? Give us your thoughts in the comments below.
