Instagram is now recommending videos just for you

In a bid to establish itself as the place for moving, as well as still, images – Instagram is now recommending videos just for you.

Instagram announced the update in a blog post.

"Today, we’re introducing new “Picked for You” channels in Explore featuring videos grouped by your favorite topics and interests."

Pick 'n' mix

Tapping on the Explore tab will now show a range of videos covering a range of topics such as cooking, comedians, fashion, and sport.

Aside from giving video content a boost, it also marks another way users can discover new content away from the timeline.

Moving on up

Video is slowly, but steadily, gaining traction on Instagram.

Over the past six months the time users have spent watching video on the platform has increased 150%. 

At the moment "Picked for You" is only available in the US, despite most of the platform's growth occuring in other regions.
