Market Finder: Global Targeting with Google

Market Finder is a new web service from Google. It helps businesses identify and research global opportunities, offering a matching service and a bunch of guides and case studies.

Match maker for businesses & markets

The matching service pulls industry and category data from the operator’s website and cross-references it with country data to rank prospective target markets.

For each country, you can browse a bunch of metrics, including the size, wealth, accessibility and cost of reaching the targets.

Guides and self-discovery

Ultimately, it directs users towards self-discovery. It has videos and written content. They are designed to explain possibilities and practices with topics like localisation, logistics and legal.

Of course, Google channels feature heavily—search, display, video and app advertising.

Worth testing

I tested Market Finder using storylinetraining.com.au as subject. The AI picked okay categories. Its prospect rankings were surprising, and backed by data.

At a glance, it may be more geared to businesses trading physical goods direct to consumers rather than virtual products or B2B.

Hey, it’s free: it generates a somewhat customised report from rather general demographic data, and recommends AdWords bids to cut through the existing competition.

Google says Market Finder is intended for small to medium enterprise. It’s high high-level stuff that may help develop a sense of familiarity, but it may not be deep enough for everyone.

Does Market Finder have potential to help you? If not you, then who?
