We use them countless times every day, but how much do we know about our web browsers? Almost certainly less than they know about us.
Today we're looking at the most popular going around – Google's very popular and very powerful Chrome.
Chroming
Chrome was first released in 2008, after Google's Sergey Brin and Larry Page hired a bunch of developers from Mozilla Firefox to custom build Google's own browser.
At the time the most popular browsers were Internet Explorer and Firefox, both of which Chrome quickly outpaced.
Top dog
These days Chrome has 1 billion active users and accounts for 58% of web browsers around the globe.
It's also the most popular browser on smartphones – making up 45% of that market.
Searching for meaning
Chrome isn't just for absently surfing the web, it also offers powerful plugins for marketers.
Three of our favourites include MozBar, Signals, and Momentum.
Oodles of Doodles
Chrome is also the home of Google Doodles: animations related to certain dates and events.
Over the years Chrome has hosted Doodles covering every from Star Wars to Chinese New Year and Dracula's birthday.
