Report: Global Digital Snapshot Spring 2015

It’s a big digital world out there, growing and evolving at a fantastic pace.

A new report has taken a global digital snapshot and come up with some surprising results. Read on the find out more.

Digital Planet

The Global Digital Snapshot August 2015 report from We Are Social looks at digital, mobile and social around the world.

It found that there are now 3.1 billion active internet users, making up 43% of the planet’s total population. This marks a 7.6% year-on-year growth.

Over the past year 225 million people used the internet for the first time, or 600,000 new users every day.

Social butterflies

There are now 2.2 billion active social media users on planet Earth.

Facebook continues to lead the pack by a country mile, with over 1.5 billion users. And there are no signs Facebook’s lead will slacken anytime soon.

Over the past year the social network added 180 million new users – that’s around six every second.

Facebook Messenger is actually the fourth most popular social network, with 700 million users.

Other notable entrants include WhatsApp (#3 with 800m users) and Twitter (#7 with 316m users).

Instagram, Skype and Badu tied for eight position with 300m users each.

Mobile is mega

The report revealed there are now 3.7 billion unique mobile users, accounting for 51% of the global population.

There are also 1.9 billion active mobile social users, marking a robust rise of 23% year-on-year.

This growth has been stream-rolled by smartphones, which now account for 40% of the world’s active handsets.
