SMK App of the Week: LinkedIn Students

LinkedIn has announced the roll-out of a new app for university graduates about to enter the job market: LinkedIn Students.

A new direction

LinkedIn is making a priority of attracting younger users to their platform and Students represents a bold step in that direction.

Befitting its name, Students has a variety of tools that LinkedIn says will make job hunting easier for graduates.

School’s Out

LinkedIn has recognised that students, because they’re still focusing on their education, may not be as familiar with LinkedIn as a useful tool for job hunting and professional networking.

When school’s out, LinkedIn will hope that their new app will help smooth that transition from student to professional—landing them a new generation of users in the process.

Features

Set to launch for both iOS and Android, the app:

  • Suggests potential roles based on a user’s education
  • Highlights companies that are hiring graduates from their school
  • View the profiles of recent alumni sharing their qualifications
  • Shows job listings specifically chosen for their qualifications and year of completion

At its initial release, Linkedin Students will only be available to users in the US, but you can expect a wider release over coming months.
