A new study shows that US teens aren't as enamoured with Facebook as the rest of the population.
No teen dream
The study from Piper Jaffray reveals that over the past six months Facebook US users in the 13 – 19 age bracket dropped from 72% to 45%.
That means less than half the 7200 teens surveyed claimed they were active on Facebook.
New Order
Where are they all going? Instagram and Twitter.
Over the same period teen users on Instagram increased from 69% to 76%, while Twitter saw a dip from 63% to 59%.
Making up the rest of the pack comes Pinterest and Tumblr.
Significantly, the study omitted Snapchat and Vine, which are both widely popular with teens.
Apple of their eye
The study also found that teens prize Apple products above other consumer tech brands, however only 16% are interested in the much-hyped Apple Watch.
The students also anticipate they’ll watch all their movies via Netflix by 2019.
Takeaways
While the study isn’t great news for Facebook, it can take some comfort from the fact that it owns Instagram.
And the fact that teen users have a habit of swinging their social allegiances.
