The latest news to come out of the frantically busy Twitter test factory? A new way to add comments to retweets.
Pay it forward
Some users are now being presented with the “Retweet with Comment” option, which allows them to add their two cents before retweeting.
Until now, users could perform a similar action using the “Quote Tweet” button.
However this hamstrung users to fewer characters, as they would have to add their comments to the original tweet while keeping it under 140 characters.
Under the new feature, the retweet appears as an image, giving users more space to comment on the tweet they are sharing.
Chatterbox
At the moment the “Retweet with Comment” feature is only appearing on mobile, and at time of writing Twitter has officially declined to comment.
The feature fits into a larger picture of Twitter trialling new features to boost engagement in the face of increased competition from visual-heavy platforms such as Instagram.
Which is incidentally tipped to overtake Twitter in users this year.
