Facebook dabbles in Live Video streaming

Facebook is expanding its video offering by offering select mobile users the ability to live-stream.

Stream of consciousness

Facebook announced the news in a blog post

"Today we’re beginning to test the ability for people to share live video on Facebook, starting with a small percentage of people in the US on iPhones.

"Live lets you show the people you care about what you’re seeing in real time — whether you’re visiting a new place, cooking your favorite recipe, or just want to share some thoughts."

Lights, camera, action

To start streaming, you tap on the Update Status and select the Live Video icon on your iPhone.

You can also include a brief description of the stream, and target who you share the video with before it goes live.

Once the stream is live, Facebook shows you the names of viewers, as well as real-time comments.

Once the stream is over it’s automatically saved to your Timeline, the same as other Facebook videos.

Streaming soups up

Live Streaming hit the mainstream in 2015, with the launch of Meerkat and Twitter’s Periscope.

If it gets a wider roll-out Live Video could has many applications for brands, from interviews to activations.

Stay tuned. And streaming.
