Apply Pay has just launched in Australia for everyone to use – as long as you have an American Express credit card.
Pay to play
For the 20% of Australian credit card uses who have an Amex in their pocket, the update is good news.
You can now use your iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch to pay for items. The system works through payment app Wallet and uses NFC technology to enable contactless transactions.
To pay simply hold your device near a reader, similar to how PayPass and PayWave work with debit and credit cards.
As an extra security measure, Touch ID details must be added to complete any transaction.
Baby steps
At the moment Apple Pay is only available for users who have a credit card issued directly from Amex, not through a bank.
Support for Visa and MasterCard is on the way, as well as a roll out in New Zealand.
Apple Pay is now available at retailers including Myer, David Jones, Coles, Woolworths, Target, Bunnings and Shell.
