Australians are among the highest users of smartphones per capita anywhere in the world. A new study shows we’re increasingly some of the biggest spenders too.
Mobile moolah
The report from Kenshoo, based on 400 billion impressions, 5.5 billion clicks and US$3.5 billion in ad revenue, shows Australia is now ahead of the US when it comes to mobile spending and clicks.
In Australia mobile now accounts for 44% of paid search ad clicks, ahead of the UK (39%) and US (36%).
The survey also revealed that mobile accounts for 37% of paid search spending in Australia, ahead of the US (32%), but behind the UK (38%).
Search ‘n’ go
The data was collected over the past five quarters, and shows that Australia has consistently maintained a strong mobile search and spend market.
There are currently around 15 million smartphone users in Australia, well over half the population.
Based on current figures, it’s estimated total mobile ad spend will top $909 million this year. Which is good news for retailers ahead of the holiday rush.
