Number Crunch: Pinterest Q2

It's an exciting time for Pinterest, having just launched Promoted Content and enjoying an engagement rate that's the envy of many.

As we plough into winter SMK ploughs into the latest facts and figures from the fast-moving, picturesque world of Pinterest.

Global pins

There are currently over 70 million Pinterest users worldwide. Much of this traffic comes from the US, where 20 per cent of internet-connected women use Pinterest.

Over in Europe, just eight per cent of internet users call themselves pinners.

Gender divide

Pinterest remains the most divided of social platforms when it comes to gender, with women making up 80 per cent of Pinterest users.

Over 92 per cent of all pins are generated by women, while women also account for 94 per cent of all Pinterest activity.

Affluent group

Pinterest users are generally a well-heeled bunch. 18 per cent of Pinterest users have an income over US$75,000, while 10 per cent have an income under US$30,000.

The average Pinterest user has 67 followers and has posted 157 pins.

Close to a quarter (23 per cent) of users access the platform daily.

Younger users

Pinterest tends to be a hit with younger users.

Over a quarter (27 per cent) of Gen Y and Gen Z users are on Pinterest, compared to 19 per cent for Gen X and 14 per cent for Baby Boomers.
