Number Crunch: Bing

When it comes to search Google might be top dog, yet it's far from the only search engine in town. Yahoo is experiencing a resurgence while Bing, Microsoft's fledging search engine, continues to increase its features and reach.

With that in mind here are the latest facts courtesy of Online Marketing Trends that shine a light into the emerging world of Bing.

Searching for answers

With US users Google remains the firm favourite and enjoys and 66 per cent market share. Bing and Yahoo make up the next 30 per cent, with other search engines account for 4 per cent.

Shopping

Online shopping is big business on Bing. The most popular retailers are Walmart, Craigslist, eBay, Home Depot, Netflix and Amazon.

The most popular social sites search on Bing are Facebook, YouTube, Hulu, Pandora and Twitter.

Travel

Reflecting Bing's US-based leanings, the most popular travel terms on Bing are Las Vegas, New York City, Los Angeles, Orlando and Seattle.

Images

So far 27,000 images have been uploaded for Bing's Homepage Contest.

It seems Bing users really like islands and beaches. The most popular hompeage images are Shipwreck Beach in Greece, Moorea Island in French Polynesia and Milford Sound in New Zealand.

Love is in the air

On average the most popular day of the year for searches on Bing is February 12. It's supposed this is related to last minute Valentine's Day ideas.

Who said romance was dead?
