Top five small business apps

Anyone who's worked in a small business knows keeping track of everything from business development to contented customers can be difficult.

However, there's a swath of apps designed to help ease the load of small business owners while increasing productivity and profits. Here are five of our favourites.

Asana

Asana is a product management app that helps individuals and teams more efficiently complete tasks.

Founded by Dustin Moskovitz (who also co-founded Facebook) Asana is essentially a shared task list that can be synched across desktop and mobile devices and means and end to group emails and meetings.

Sign Easy

Need to sign an important document but out of the office? As the name suggests, Sign Easy lets you legally sign documents in almost any format on your smartphone or tablet. Never scan or fax again.

Bump

Instead of filling up a Filofax with business cards Bump lets you 'bump' two smartphones together to swap virtual business cards and information such as images and files.

Bump gets extra points for being free, environmentally friendly and fun to use.

Expensify

For business owners constantly on-the-go Expensify is a excellent way to keep track of your business expenses and mileage.

Features include the ability to scan and upload receipts, submit expense reports and reimbursement through Quickbooks and Direct Deposit. Free for individuals and small businesses.

Square

Started by Jack Dorsey (aka the man who invented Twitter) Square enables users with a smartphone or tablet to accept credit card payments.

Square's small card reader attaches to your device and opens up a new, cheap way for business owners to receive payments. Square's pricing structure is simple too: no sign-up or ongoing fees, just 2.75 per cent off each transaction.
