Google is many things – the largest search engine on the planet, the biggest repository of data in human history and officially a verb.
Google processes over 500 million search queries every day, and the number is exponentially growing. This makes Google fertile online ground for brands to advertise using AdWords, the company's advertising platforms.
Getting started with Google AdWords is easy and customisable – we've put together six easy steps to get your ad up and running no time.
1. Create a login
The first step is creating a Google AdWords login. This is as simple as entering a valid email address and password.
Once set up you can use your login details to monitor the performance of your campaign.
2. Target a geographic region
This step is optional, but we think it's a good idea.
Google's collected massive amounts of data on its users, meaning you can accurately select where your ad appears.
Choose how wide or narrow a net you want to cast then you're ready for step number three!
3. Set your daily budget
Similar to Facebook advertising, AdWords allows you to set a daily budget which means no nasty blowouts.
Simply decide what you want to spend per day, bearing in mind AdWords will only charge when a user clicks on your ad.
4. Set your cost per click
After you've set your daily budget, select the Automatic bidding option. This means AdWords will adjust your bids to give you the largest amount of clicks for your budget.
5. Create your ad
Make your ad short, sharp and punchy. Avoid huge chunks of text. Images help.
Remember you have to stand out when a user performs a search – what key terms are most likely to grab their attention?
6. Select keywords
AdWords allows you to decide which keywords or phrases will trigger your ad to appear.
Try to keep the terms as relevant as possible, and adjust as you go. You can add and subtract keywords during your campaign to tweak performance.
We suggest researching what similar businesses are doing to get an idea of what's working for them. Then copy and conquer!
