Stock drop
The new device, essentially an upgraded iPhone 4, was released to a tepid response from investors expecting an iPhone 5 announcement. Apple’s stock dropped 4.6 per cent following the news.
S stands for speed and Siri
While the 4S retains the same design as the iPhone 4, specifications have been improved across the board. It will be the fastest iPhone ever released, running Apple’s new IOS 5 operating system and comes with an 8 megapixel camera, HD video display and dual antennas allowing the 4S to be used globally. However the phone will not be able to be used on Australia’s 4G network.
Perhaps the most interesting new feature is Siri, the voice activated digital assistant. Ask Siri a question such as “Where is nearest café?” and Siri will access your current location and provide a recommendation. Apple has partnered with Yelp giving Siri access to thousands of cafes and restaurant reviews.
Australia among the first to see the 4S
As befits a country with the highest smartphone ownership in the world, Australia will be one of the first places to receive the iPhone 4S. Telstra has confirmed it will be stocking the device from mid-October, with pricing plans yet to be confirmed.
