Featured one the Apple App Store’s “Staff Favourites”, “New and Noteworthy” and “What’s Hot in Social Media” lists, Australian-created iOS app Tonight! improves usability with a major update.
What are you doing tonight?
Tonight! is a sharply-designed, no-frills iOS app for social butterflies looking to keep track of what friends are doing—and where—on that very night.
Its function is simple: once signed in through your Facebook account, you’re presented with a single question: “What are you doing tonight?” Beneath the question are three simple choices: “Going out”, “Staying In”, and “Not Sure”. Pick the one that applies to you and you’re given the chance to elaborate on your plans—where you’ll be, who you’re seeing, or what you’d like to get up to. The app then lets your friends stay up to date with what you’re doing, where you’re doing it and whom you’re doing it with.
One night only:
Tonight!’s genius is in it’s narrow and immediate focus. The app isn’t a place to record your life or set up plans for the future, it’s all about the here and now. Feeds are completely reset in the morning, meaning that no updates over 24 hours old show up in your feed (and no embarrassing escapades are remembered!).
Friendlier, Simpler, Faster, Prettier:
Released in May, Tonight! has just unrolled a major update that helps streamline the elegant little app even further. There’s an improved friends screen to give you a clearer daily snapshot of who’s doing what, the added ability to accept or reject friends requests, an easier-to-use profile screen, and back-end tweaks to make the whole thing run quicker.
While other social media platforms already offer the ability to stay in touch with your friends and their movements, Tonight!’s streamlined, no-clutter focus makes it a worthwhile addition—as long as you can get your friends to join up too.
