Facebook has just extended the reach of Graph Search to include posts and status updates.
Searching the graph
Facebook first launched Graph Search 10 months ago, as a feature that allowed users to discover information through their social circles. For example, users can ask “What are my friends' favourite cafes?” and be shown results based on their Facebook friends' preferences.
Graph Search's tentacles now extend to posts and status updates, Facebook announced in a blog post.
“Now you will be able to search for status updates, photo captions, check-ins and comments to find things shared with you,” Facebook explained.
Comments on posts cannot currently be searched using Graph Search.
Post all about it
The update to Graph Search will help Facebook's fledgling hashtag feature, and strengthen the social network's position as a hub for real-time news.
WIll this affect Twitter? Perhaps down the track. What it will do in the short term is give Facebook another rich vein of user data, which can be wrapped in a bow and presented to marketers for more targeted advertising.
The updated Graph Search is now being rolled out to US users, with other countries expected to follow soon.
