In the past Facebook has been criticised for being too desktop-centric and not agile enough for the mobile web.
New data from comScore suggests the opposite, showing the Facebook app now accounts for a massive 23 per cent of the total time spent on all mobile apps.
Mobile movement
Commscore's figures reveal that in October 2012 Facebook overtook Google Maps as the most popular mobile app in the United States.
Facebook and Google Maps had been jockeying for top spot for much of 2012, with Apple's decision to drop Google Maps from iOS 6 blamed for Google's decline.
When considering that Facebook-owned Instagram owns 3 per cent of the time users spend on mobile apps, Facebook is ultimately responsible for over a quarter of the total time spent on all mobile apps.
Google and the rest
While Facebook might be number one, Google apps such as Google Search, Gmail and YouTube make up the next six positions.
Pandora Radio, Apple iTunes, Cooliris and Yahoo! Messenger round off the top ten.
App and away
The news is encouraging news for Facebook and its investors, as the company looks for more monetising options.
If these stats are anything to go by, 2013 will be the year Facebook follows its users from the desktop to mobile.
