After failing to set the world on fire, Facebook is giving Slingshot a makeover.
Slingin' in the rain
Facebook's messaging app, widely seen as the social network's response to Snapchat, is now being rebranded as a sort of social hybrid.
Now Slingshot users can follow people on Twitter, while retaining the ability to send private messages. Slingshot also allows users to see a grid layout showing pictures from the last 24 hours, similar to Snapchat Stories.
Shot in the dark
This isn't the first time Facebook's shaken up Slingshot since launching in June 2014, and this latest update may appeal to users wanting a greater focus on discovery.
However if it doesn't, Facebook can console itself that it also owns messaging superstar WhatsApp.
