Google released a slew of new features last week including upgrades to its photo, video and sharing capabilities.
But hidden amidst the flurry of announcements was something no brand with a presence on G+ should miss. The roll out of custom URLs.
Name is, own it
Until now users had no control over their G+ URLs, so G+ pages would typically end in a series of numbers and letters.
Now the URL will match the brand. So for example Nike’s Google+ page will appear as plus.google.com/nike.
To quality for a custom URLs your G+ account must have a profile photo, at least 10 followers and be over 30 days old.
Brands and businesses that have a linked website also qualify. Once you qualify Google will prepare your custom URL and you must claim it. So don't delay!
G+ growth
The update is important as it brings G+ into line with its bigger social cousins Facebook and Twitter.
It will also make brand pages more identifiable and easier for users to discover.
