It may not come as a surprise to learn Google continues to dominate seach, according to the latest data from StatCounter.
Not only is Google Search the most popular search engine on desktops, Google is by far the preferred option for the growing mobile market.
Who’s winning in Australia?
Australian’s preferred search engine is Google, accounting for 94 per cent of searches between August 2011 and August 2012.
Bing only accounted for 4.1 per cent while Yahoo totalled for 1.4 per cent of total searches in the same period.
Australia compared to the rest of the world
Google still dominates in the United States with 79.5 per cent of searches, but it accounts for a smaller percentage of total searches in comparison to Australia.
This means the United States had a larger spread of search engine use with Bing and Yahoo being of higher popularity compared to Australia.
Australia's results are similar in the United Kingdom, where Google was used in 91.7 per cent of searches
Mopping up mobile
Google leads the race in search on mobile in Australia, with a 99 per cent market share.
What are we searching for?
The fastest rising search term on Google over the past year was iPhone 5, according to Google Zeitgeist.
Other popular search terms in the top ten were Cyclone Yasi (second), Royal Wedding (seventh) and the Rugby World Cup (eighth).
While Bing and Yahoo continue to make ground, these latest figures show search is, for the foreseeable future, a one engine race.
