The days of screen capping are numbered: Instagram plays with a new feature allowing users to repost other people’s Instagram posts to their own Stories.
Retweeting-style comes to Instagram
Only in its preliminary testing, some users may have noticed a new “add post to your story” option when tapping the share icon accompanying regular posts.
Currently, even members without access to the new test feature can see the option labeled “Allow Resharing to Stories” under Story Settings, which indicates a larger launch on the horizon.
When “resharing,” users will also have the opportunity to resize, rotate, and re-position the post being shared and will also have the option between two post templates indicating the original poster.
The people have spoken
Users have been asking for a way to share other users’ posts for some time, leading to a plethora of screenshots being used to spread content.
Along with type mode (allowing for purely text-based posts) and increased GIF support powered by GIPHY, users have more flexibility in stylising and spreading content than ever before.
Reposting or “resharing” isn’t new to Instagram but the fresh streamlined approach is. The small change could have a big impact on future Instagram sharing, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
