LinkedIn has added notifications to its recently redesigned website, aiming to capture more of the growing social market.
LinkedIn is rolling out the feature to all users over the next two weeks, continuing the interface refresh the company announced in July.
Real-time updates will now appear in a drop-down menu labelled with a flag icon, next to a relocated inbox shortcut in the design of an envelope.
Building engaging discussions
The latest addition to LinkedIn’s product is another feature that matters to users and may drive extra traffic to increase their share of social sharing, a category Twitter currently dominates.
Pushing notifications to the forefront of the experience and highlighting current activity amongst a user’s connections is LinkedIn’s hope for a more engaged user base.
The network currently has 175million registered members worldwide, including over 3million Australian users, however LinkedIn's active numbers are lower than both Facebook and Twitter.
Going mobile
Following the trends set by Facebook and Twitter, LinkedIn is seeing increased usage in its mobile apps, which accounted for almost 25 per cent of unique visits this year – a bump of over 10 per cent.
The company wasted no time updating their Android and iOS apps to include push notifications, releasing the latest versions today.
As the major social networks continue to increase their overall user numbers, LinkedIn is playing catch-up in order to remain competitive in the professional market.
