LinkedIn has started 2013 on a high note: by announcing it now has 200 million global members.
Links and links
LinkedIn's Senior Vice President of Products and User Experience Deep NIshar revealed the news this week, explaining that LinkedIn's members hailed some 200 countries.
LinkedIn sees two new members join every second, or 172,800 a day (apparently that's enough to fill the Roman Colosseum three times).
“I’d like to thank each of you for helping build the LinkedIn network into what it is today. It’s been amazing to see how our members have been able to transform their professional lives through LinkedIn,” wrote Nishar.
Numbers
As befitting such as announcement, LinkedIn provided an infographic showing its impressive global stats.
Countries
Th United States has the most LinkedIn members (74 million) followed by India (18 million) and Brazil (11 million).
The fastest growing countries are Turkey, Columbia and Indonesia.
And if LinkedIn were a country, it would have the first largest population, equal to France, Italy and the UK combined.
Industries
The five largest industries represented on LinkedIn are Information Technology and Services (4 million), Financial Services (2.03 million), Higher Education (1.95 million), Computer Software (1.65 million) and Telecommunications (1.59 million).
People
The five most followed people on LinkedIn are Richard Branson, Barack Obama, Deepak Chopra MD, Tony Robbins, and Jeff Weiner.
Growing Up
LinkedIn spent much of 2012 improving the look, usability and social functionality of its platform. If these figures are anything to go by, the strategy seems to be working.
While LinkedIn is still a fifth of the size of Facebook, passing 200 million members is a fairly impressive good way to start the year – in anyone's book.
