Google One is the newish brand for premium consumer-level cloud services from Google.
Drive to One
Until now, Google Drive users who wanted more gigabytes in the cloud could buy it from within Google Drive. Currently, a transition is underway to relocate all such paid services to the new Google One brand.
It’s not in Australia yet, but expect it soon.
Google Drive continues to be the place for free 15GB plans. For more, Google One’s holding page says its ‘plans will start at 100 GB for $1.99, 200 GB for $2.99 and 2 TB for $9.99 per month’.
More than space
Beyond extra drive space, Google says that One users ‘can easily get in touch with a team of Google experts 24/7 to answer your questions’ and will also ‘get extra benefits across Google’.
At launch, the ‘extra benefits’ will include credits on Google Play, discounts to certain bookings made via Google, and the ability to share cloud space with others—a perk apparently intended mostly for family convenience.
Two Ones
Don’t confuse Google One with Android One—the latter refers to certain devices that run an unmodified version of Android. As yet, at least, the two Ones are unrelated.
Do you think there is a problematic clash of brands with Google One and Android One, or is the similarity unlikely to cause any problems?
