Live-streaming video app Meerkat has announced Cameo, a new feature that lets you take over live streaming videos.
Snap it up
Meerkat explained in a blog post that Cameo is intended to make videos more interactive.
"Today’s app update is our biggest yet and the first big implementation of our vision for participatory media, and it is a lot of fun."
Takeover time
Now users can invite their friends to takeover their live video stream.
To get sharing, you tap on a friend's profile to let them know there's a stream in progress.
The friend then has the option of taking over the stream for up to 60 seconds, while their Facebook friends and Twitter followers are alerted during the takeover.
At any point during the takeover either user can end the stream, and after 60 seconds the stream returns to the original owner's control.
Partnership potential
Since causing a storm after debuting at this year's SXSW, Meerkat has faced stiff competition from Twitter-owned streaming rival Periscope.
Cameo could prove an appealing option for brands involved in events and activations that want to engage with influencers.
