So you've got your LinkedIn profile set up, regularly add new connections and check-in every once in awhile. That's all you have to do right?
Wrong. It isn't enough to simply be present on LinkedIn, you must be active. As the most popular platform with Australian professionals, LinkedIn has enormous potential for making new contacts.
Here are three ways to become a networking ninja on the oft misunderstood social platform.
1. Advanced Searches
LinkedIn's advanced search is a powerful tool for tracking down business prospects. You can search across a range of parameters including keywords, industry, relationships and groups.
Just make sure you remove the “first degree connection” from your search, so you don't double up on users already in your network.
Finally, save your search and LinkedIn will notify you whenever it finds a user who fits the bill.
2. Publish
You post on Facebook and tweet on Twitter, LinkedIn should be no different.
Consider posting regular content on LinkedIn that's a fit for your audience. LinkedIn isn't the place for that picture of your kitten jumping in a box, instead share relevant professional content for an easy win.
Remember to use hashtags and target your posts to relevant followers, so you're not seen as spammy.
3. LinkedIn Groups
LinkedIn Groups are an excellent way to connect with like-minded users and potential clients.
There's pretty much a group to cover every interest, so pick your area of expertise and start the conversation.
Don't be put off if some groups require approval before joining – once you're through the virtual door it's confirmation you're on the right track!
