US President Barack Obama's done it, the Dalai Llama's done it, even David Beckham's done it – and now you can too. After months of speculation Google has finally rolled out the Hangouts on Air feature for all Google+ users.
Hangouts on Air, which until now had been restricted to a number of high profile users, allows people to make video conference calls with other Google+ users and broadcast the feed on YouTube, a feature unique to the social media platform.
Everyone's talking about it
While Google has steadily been adding new features and tweaking the design of Google+ over the past year, Hangouts on Air is potentially the point of difference that could see a surge in the social network's popularity.
Skype currently allows video conference call with up to three people, but requires users to pay for a Skype Premium account to access larger group chats. Google+ now allows users to potentially connect with a global audience – for free.
Connect with clients and customers
In the past Hangouts on Air has been used to facilitate everything from music lessons and concerts to virtual meeting rooms. The feature can be limited to friends or open to anyone, meaning brands can potentially use Hangouts on Air to hold location independent meetings, or as a platform to connect with customers.
Any Hangout can be streamed on YouTube and recorded to re-post at a later date.
Say cheese
Hangouts on Air is currently being rolled out globally, and is now available in Australia. To learn more about using the new service watch the 'how to' video visit Google's blog.
