Our appetite for infographic has grown dramatically in recent times.

Over the past two years Google has seen an 800% boost in the number of people searching for infographics, processing over 40,000 requests every month.

Zeroing in

Over the course of a day the typical internet user is exposed to the equivalent of 174 newspapers' worth of content. Most of data is filtered out immediately by the brain.

However as images are processed 60,000 times faster than text, infographics have a far better chance of making the cut.

Retention

Yet getting eyeballs is only half the challenge, you need to make sure your reader understands and hopefully retains what you're talking about. Here's where infographics stand out again.

On average people retain 80% of what they see, 20% of what they read, and 10% of what they hear.

Hit rate

Aside from looking good and being fun to engage with, infographics are an increasingly powerful marketing tool. 

An infographic is 30 times more likely to be read than a text-based article, and much more likely to be shared on social channels.

Finally, publishers who use infographics increase their traffic by 12% more than their competitors who do not.
