In many ways Twitter has grown more than any other social network over the past year.
Emerging from a micro-blogging platform into a truly diverse space, Twitter now dabbles in everything from TV ratings and video to images and activations.
With that in mind SMK takes a look behind the curtain at the latest Twitter stats, courtesy of Statistic Brain.
Half a billion
Twitter now boasts over 645 million registered users, around half that of Facebook.
While Twitter's growth lagged somewhat in 2013, some 135,000 new users continue to sign up every day.
Content
All these users are generating an avalanche of content. At last count 58 million tweets are created every day (or 9100 every second).
Twitter users are also a curious bunch, racking up 2.1 billion search queries every day.
Mobile army
Still a truly mobile platform, almost half (43 per cent) of users prefer using their phone to tweet.
Three's a crowd?
While Twitter has drip-fed functionality updates such as improved analytics, there's still a lot of room for improvement.
60 per of users tweet from a third party application.
Money matters
Twitter launched its IPO last year, and while it may not have performed as well as expected, Twitter's revenue continues to grow.
In 2012 Twitter netted US$259 million from advertising revenue. In 2013 that figure rose to US$405 million.
