In an age where start-ups are considered long in the tooth after a few years, Yahoo is something of an anomaly.
This year marks Yahoo's 20th birthday, and over two decades the search engine has seen many highs and lows. Here's how things currently stand at Yahoo HQ.
Bronze
While Google is the undisputed king of search (and many other things), Yahoo consistently remains in the running. In fact in July 2013 Yahoo briefly surpassed Google.
Today Google currently accounts for over 67% of the US search market, followed by Bing (18.7%) and Yahoo (10%).
Monthly monolith
Over a typical month Yahoo processes some 1.9 billion search queries. Once again this comes in third place after Google (12.6b) and Bing (3.5b).
Around 700 million users visit Yahoo websites every month.
Extended family
Yahoo is much bigger than just search. The brand extends to services including Yahoo Directory, Yahoo Mail, Yahoo News, Yahoo Finance, Yahoo Groups and Yahoo Answers.
Falling revenue
While Yahoo remains a formidable player, it isn't currently kicking goals with shareholders.
In July Yahoo's Q2 revenue dropped 4 per cent to US$1.08 billion. The figure marked the lowest return since Marissa Mayer took over as CEO two years ago.
The loss is generally attributed to Google and Facebook making gains in display advertising.
Pub trivia
Yahoo isn't just a catchy name. It's actually an acronym for Yet Another Hierarchical Officious Oracle.
