Keeping track of passwords is one of the more challenging aspects of managing your online business presence, and it's only going to get harder.
We've all been guilty of using no brainers like “1234567”, but events like the recent Adobe attack remind us that that online security remains as important as ever.
Thankfully you don't have to have to memorise several hundred unique passwords to stay safe online, you can just use an app like Passpack.
Don't pass the buck
Passpack is aimed at virtually every internet user, from individuals and families to business owners and contractors.
It works like this: you enter your password into Passpack's interface, which works in a similar way to a spreadsheet.
You can then assign notes and share this information easily with others. You can also tag and categorise entries (for example office, home, social, etc) making them easier to organise.
As a nice extra touch, when you're accessing your passwords you only identify them by tags, meaning there's no chance of someone in the same room inadvertently seeing your secret stuff.
Safety first
Once all your passwords are entered, Passpack allows you to autofill your usernames and passwords into frequently visited websites.
While browsers like Google Chrome and Internet Explorer offer the same service, Passpack is more secure because it's stored on a server, meaning if your laptop was stolen your passwords would still be intact.
Passpack offers an extra layer of security by only using encrypted data, so if their server was hacked your data would remain secure.
Messenger
In addition to its security credentials, Passpack also lets you send messages to colleagues and clients, as well as sending links and data.
Finally, the app can also import usernames and passwords from CSV files such as Excel spreadsheets, meaning less double-handling.
Passpack is free for up to 100 passwords, then has pricing plans based around usage.
