Until now, Snapchat has remained a fairly closed platform, especially from data-minded advertisers looking to dilute the app itself.
Snapchat is reconsidering its position as a walled garden, and has made plans to launch an entire app creator platform called SnapKit.
Past and future
Facebook famously opened its technical books back in 2010 which lead to its gigantic rise for nearly the next decade, that “nearly” being in reference to the other result which was the Cambridge Analytica scandal.
Opening their gates to AR devs makes sense as a trend, but it's Snap’s new login system that would allow third-party app makers to authenticate accounts with Snapchat credentials.
Teens are far more likely to see the value in linking a Snapchat account rather than Facebook, and advertisers know that it's with teens that trends hit hardest. Stay tuned. And snapping.
What do you think about Snapchat opening up its tech with others? Do you think Snapchat could overtake Facebook in peripheral logins? Give us your thoughts in the comments.
