Snapchat has given users a new way to share links to content, and it should make it easier for brands to ‘go viral’ on the platform.
Share from other apps
The latest update to Snapchat’s iOS app has introduced a new link sharing dynamic that makes it play more nicely with other apps.
App version 10.20.1.0 boasts that you can now ‘Tap the share button in another app to send links or photos to friends on Snapchat.’
What that means, content-wise
As of now, Apple phone and tablet users can share content from other apps to friends in Snapchat. Basically, it is opening-up to content that is non-native to the platform.
Thanks to this, Snapchat now has the potential to become a significant source of referral traffic for content-based websites.
Android ambivalence
At the time of writing, Android Snapchat was yet to get the same feature update. It took them a while to get their multi-snap act together for Android, which we wrote was available for iOS midyear.
The new ‘Share’ ability seems to play into a broader strategy rather than just being a nice-to-have feature. Chances are it’ll come soon if it’s going to stick around at all.
How should organisation’s plan for Snapchat-shareable content?
