Snapchat has unveiled plans to allow users to share links from other apps, and the ability to hide live location sharing for a set amount of time.
Bumping up referrals
The popular photo and video sharing social app is hoping to bolster itself as a legitimate source for traffic referral available to e-commerce and news sites alike.
The move may be in response to Facebook’s recent test effort to relocate non-ad Page posts to their new Explore Feed, reducing referral traffic by up to 50%.
Brands looking to go viral with younger demographics could take advantage of efficient link sharing rather than the traditional method of copy/pasting desired URLs.
Going off the grid (temporarily)
Along side link sharing, Snapchat is also introducing “Ghost Mode.” Rather than having to turn live location sharing on or off indefinitely, users will be able to briefly deactivate their location between three to 24 hours.
Both the new link sharing and Ghost Mode have been updated on Snapchat for iOS, with Android coming shortly.
The additions show that Snapchat is listening to its community with Ghost Mode while proactively expanding into new business-friendly territory with link sharing.
