Social driving 50 per cent of web sales by 2015

While the debate continues over the ROI across online properties, a new report indicates that social media is expected to account for half of all social commerce sales by 2015.

And a lot of that is due to Facebook.

Social spend

A new infographic from Vocus suggests social commerce sales will clock up US$30 billion by 2015, with half coming via social media.

Facebook win

Facebook is tipped to drive 26 per cent of referral traffic to business websites, while 20 per cent of consumers already prefer purchasing products through a brand's Facebook page instead of its website.

These fans can be powerful ambassadors. Facebook fans are 74 per cent more likely to recommend a brand or product, while 79 per cent are more likely to make a purchase.

Like and buy

In 2011 US$3.8 billion of Facebook's US$4.27 billion revenue came from business advertising. This is expected to more than double in the coming years.

One in three SMEs currently use Facebook, while over half of businesses (58 per cent) experience a drop in marketing costs when moving to Facebook.
