The number of St George Bank customers using mobile banking is set to overtake transactions made at the bank’s physical branches. More than 600,000 financial transactions are currently being processed every month, equivalent to the workload of 112 branches.
Financial apps the way forward
With the majority of St George’s 252,000 mobile customers using either an iPhone or iPad, the bank is releasing a new version of its free iPad app that offers more comprehensive sales and service functionality.
Besides being able to transfer funds, pay bills, schedule payments and check balances the app features an automated feed from St George’s Twitter account, a home loan selector and the ability to apply for a savings account. While the bank now allows customers to apply for a mortgage online, this service is not yet available on mobile devices.
Mobile banking good for customers and business
The number of St George customers using mobile banking has doubled in the past 12 months, and as mobile device coverage continues to grow more sophisticated apps can be expected from Australian banks. Mobile banking is an attractive option both for customers, who avoid queues, and banks, who streamline their customer support without compromising on quality.
The St George Bank app will be available in November.
