Facebook has announced ability for Instagram users to cross-post directly to Facebook Stories, in a bid to bolster Facebook’s lack of Stories.
Efficiency is key
Following preliminary tests in Portugal, Facebook is looking to launch the new functionality in the US, with the rest to follow.
Yet the cross-posting only works one way. Instagrammers can post to Facebook Stories, but not vice versa. Facebook is also making their Stories section the default from Facebook Camera.
Stories upon Stories
Instagram’s Stories has been a runaway success with users and brands since being launched. Its success has hurt Snapchat, and possibly Facebook Stories as well.
Instagram has managed to eat into 17.2% of Snapchat’s daily user growth since launching Stories.
Yet Facebook is determined to get Stories to the people as analytics indicates its what users want most, regardless of who is providing the feature.
Thanks to Instagram’s cross-posting, Facebook may begin to add content quickly, but what that means for competition remains to be seen.
