A new report details what tips and tricks top brands are using to win on Twitter.
#Engagement
The study from Simply Measured looked at the Twitter activity of the Interbrand 2014 Best Global Brands over Q4 2014.
The data revealed that while brands didn't necessarily increase their number of tweets, engagement per tweet rose over the quarter.
Simply Measured speculated this was due to brands posting more relevant, high-quality content.
Over 2014 brands grew their Twitter audience by 38% on average, while per post engagement rose 85%.
Sweet spot
If you're looking for an optimal number of tweets per day, between one to six works for most of the big brands – not including Retweets and @Replies.
Only 6% of surveyed brands tweeted more than 10 times per day, while 7% tweeted less than once per day.
Chatter
Chatter is increasing on Twitter. Over 2014 @Replies accounted for 68% of brand tweets, while half of brands responded to at least one tweet per day.
If you're looking to up engagement, try a hashtag. Tweets with hashtags attracted an average of 184 @Replies, compared to 146 @Replies for tweets with no hashtag.
Overall, a third of all tweets measured featured more than one hashtag.
Photo finish
Photos remain the biggest driver of activity on Twitter. Photos featured in 55% of sent tweets, yet accounted for 55% of engagement.
This marks a rise of 10% from 2013.
