Micro-blogging website and social media platform Tumblr is now one of the ten most popular websites in the US.
Stepping up
Tumblr's 26-year-old founder and CEO David Karp announced the milestone in a company blog post earlier this week, pointing to data from Quantcast.
With 61 million unique monthly visitors Tumblr is now the ninth most popular US website, ahead of Pinterest and within striking distance of Wikipedia and Amazon.
However Tumblr still lags behind Facebook, which has 140 million uniques visitors per month.
Growth spurt
Tumblr has grown at an extraordinary rate over the past three years. In 2009 Tumblr had fewer than one million monthly viewers.
Today it has a global audience of 168 million, and growing.
