To celebrate the year that was, Twitter has unveiled a microsite detailing the highlights of the past 12 months.
Year in review
The #YearInReview site reveals that 500 million tweets were sent every day this year, covering everything from breaking news to celeb mishaps.
The biggest news story of the year on Twitter was the World Cup, whose fans sent a cracking 672 million tweet over the month-long tournament.
When Germany won the Cup users sent over 618,000 tweets per minute.
Other big news stories included #BringBackOurGirls, in response to the mass kidnappings in Nigeria, and #IndyRef, for the Scottish Referendum.
Celebs
In 2014 a raft of celebrities became tweeters. Some of these big cheeses included Robert Downey Jr. and Garth Brooks. The Queen also sent her first tweet.
Twitter listed Lady Gaga, J.K. Rowling and Neymar Jr. as their must-follow stars.
And of course who could forget that selfie by Ellen at the Oscars, which became the most popular tweet of all time.
